ST LUCIA

From first glance I fell in love with St. Lucia. The island is diverse in nature and culture and each area has its own history. St. Lucia is very warm all year round. It is easily reached via air from Ireland via major USA and European cities. The island is large enough to provide an abundance of activities.

The culture is unique, a lively blend of primarily French, English and African heritages. English is the official language yet French Creole is spoken informally. The people are the most welcoming I’ve ever come across. I was very comfortable on this island straight away.

Village life in coastal areas is shaped around fishing. Beach life offers many typical activities such as swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing. Countryside life revolves around agriculture. Forests in St. Lucia are teeming with life, frogs that sing at night to rare birds that raise voices in the day. Adventure is abundant in St. Lucia, you can enjoy the beachside which is geared with all that’s required to surf the wind. You could set yourself the task of doing the zip line tour, a bicycle trail, or if you’re up for it you could give climbing the “Gros Pitons” a try which would give you the most breathtaking views. Another great place to see is Pigeon Island, it is full of history.

Castries is the Capital of St. Lucia which is the main business and commercial hub, located around the impressive harbour. It is also close to the beautiful stretch of Vigie Beach. A walking tour of Castries includes the colourful market where vendors display an array of exotic produce and local crafts including pottery pieces and woven baskets. The vendor’s market offers plenty of souvenirs. La Place Carengae is one of the main duty-free shopping centres. This is where you will see the cruise ships docking. Also a must see here is the “Cathedral of Immaculate Conception”. I spent a couple of hours here shopping and it was a lovely experience , the people just couldn’t be nicer, I also went into see the Cathedral and it was just fantastic , well worth seeing.

I would definitely go back to this island in a heartbeat for a personal holiday. It is also just ideal for weddings and honeymoons. During our trip I had the pleasure of being a guest at a wedding here, I was blown away with how perfect it really was.
I also got to stay in a wide range of hotels, some suitable for families, some for honeymoons and others for weddings, and then you have hotels that cater for all the above.

I’ve been totally blown away with this island, it was not what I expected at all, and I will, without a doubt, be going back for a family holiday.
