Myself and my husband travelled to the Dominican Republic on our honeymoon. We combined it with a Southern Caribbean Cruise for the first seven nights.
Arriving at Punta Cana airport is an amazing experience, the airport is open air and has a thatched roof. You are met by locals in traditional colourful clothing ready to take your first holiday snaps.
We stayed in the Adult-Only Excellence Punta Cana Resort on a all-inclusive basis. The transfer time from Punta Cana airport is approx 40 minutes. The resort itself is just steps away from the Caribbean Sea. I loved the pools in this hotel, they just wind through the colonial style resort and the swim up bar with the best cocktails I have ever had.
The suite accommodation is very spacious and included four-poster king beds, private Jacuzzis, marble bathrooms and furnished balconies.
The dining options are fantastic with over eight international restaurants to choose from each evening each with a different culinary experience. The amount of activities in this resort really impressed me including tennis, aerobics, squash, Spanish dancing and cooking lessons, scuba lessons, yoga and plenty more. We booked a 30 minute horse back ride along the beach which was a fantastic experience.
As part of our honeymoon package the hotel will serve you dinner on the beach. This was the highlight for us, we were just steps away from the sea with our own private table lit up by candles and the food was excellant. They staff really made it very special for us.
Everything about this resort for me was 5 Star, the standard of accommodation, the staff, the choice of restaurants and the entertainment at nightime.
