I have been to New York on two occasions. My first trip was in March 2007 when I celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and the second trip in January 2008 when I celebrated my birthday. My first trip I stayed in the Wellington Hotel which is a 3 star hotel very close to Times Square. The location was perfect as it was a ten minute walk to Times Square and the same to reach Central Park. I have also stayed in the Fitzpatrick’s Manhattan Hotel which is a 4 Star hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel for comfort and location.
My favorite thing to do in New York is shopping. I would highly recommend a trip to Woodbury Common Shopping Outlet. You can take a bus from Port Authority direct to Woodbury Common; the journey is approximately 1 hour. I have been known to spend a full day here as the savings and discounts are so good. In fact on my second visit to Woodbury I took along a empty suitcase to pack all my purchases into!!!
Of course the sights in New York are not to be missed. My first stop was Times Square right in the heart of the Big Apple. The atmosphere was amazing here with the billboards lighting up the entire square. You will also find a range of bars, restaurants and shops in the square. I also took a trip to Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. I took the subway to the port and boarded the ferry at Battery Park. I would suggest using the subway instead of taking a taxi as you do not want to get stuck in New York traffic.
Central Park - of course you must take a stroll around Central Park. The park is so big and you will not get to see it all but if you can then take a trip to the Zoo in the park it is well worth the visit. I did not even know there was a Zoo here until I stumbled upon it. This would be a perfect trip for a family visiting New York with children.
There are so many bars and restaurants within New York you will be spoilt for choice. My favorite area is Greenwich Village for eating and drinking out. If you are thinking of going to see a show on Broadway you will find most of the restaurants around Broadway will have special offers before or after the shows. Another favourite of mine are the choice of excellent Italian restaurants in the Italian district..great choice & great food!
I would highly recommend a trip to New York whether it is for a romantic breakaway, shopping trip or a family city break. I am looking forward to returning to the Big Apple in the near future.
