Travel Counsellor: Lorraine Devane
From first glance I fell in love with St. Lucia. The island is diverse in nature and culture and each area has its own history. St. Lucia is very warm all year round. It is easily reached via air from Ireland via major USA and European cities. The island is large enough to provide an abundance of activities.
The culture is unique, a lively blend of primarily French, English and African heritages. English is the official language yet French Creole is spoken informally. The people are the most welcoming I’ve ever come across. I was very comfortable on this island straight away.
Village life in coastal areas is shaped around fishing. Beach life offers many typical activities such as swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing. Countryside life revolves around agriculture. Forests in St. Lucia are teeming with life, frogs that sing at night to rare birds that raise voices in the day.
